Want to collaborate and share files Adobe InDesign and a cloud-based storage system? Remember to set them up this way:
This article assumes you are not using Adobe's limited file-storage system. Instead you are using one or more of several popular cloud-based file storage systems.
When using DropBox
Install DropBox app into computer so that it is in Finder/Explorer (https://www.dropbox.com/desktop)
Turn off all Smart Sync features. Turn on full editing rights.
Right-click folders and Make Available Offline
Setup a project folder that contains the InDesign file and any placed assets inside (in sub-folders) of your user>Dropbox folder. Right-click the project folder and choose Share… You will get a dialog, which lets you invite other DropBox users to sync to the project folder. When the invited users accept the invitation, the project folder will sync to their local DropBox folder on their computer. When either of you make edits, the affected files will be updated on both computers. The email you enter has to be the email associated with the user’s DropBox account.
When using Google Drive
Install Google Drive app into the computer so that it is in Finder/Explorer (https://www.google.com/drive/download/)
Turn off all Smart Sync features. Turn on full editing rights.
You can change files or folders to Available Offline. The option is found under the Drive File Stream option in the right-click menu. Some find that Google File Stream does not work well, but Google Drive usually works.
When using OneDrive
Install OneDrive app into the computer (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/onedrive/download) so that it is in Finder/Explorer
Turn off all Smart Sync features. Turn on full editing rights.
Right-click a folder or file to make it Always Available or Available Offline.
When using Box Drive
Install BoxDrive app into the computer so that it is in Finder/Explorer (https://www.box.com/resources/downloads)
Turn off all Smart Sync features. Turn on full editing rights.
